INTRODUCING YOURSELF AND OTHER PEOPLE

We are going to see some expressions we use in English to introduce oneself or someone to a friend, the expressions will depend on whether the situation is formal or informal.

How to greet people (in informal contexts)

Saying hello
Hey Jane!
Hi Jane!
Alright, Jane!
Alright, mate!
Asking someone how they are
How are you?
How you doing?

How you going?

How's it going?

You alright?

Saying you are well
Good, thanks!
Fine, thanks!

Not bad, not bad!

Alright, thanks!
I'm OK!

Returning the question when someone has asked if you are well
And you?
How about you?

What about you?

When you meet people you say "Good morning" first thing in the morning, "Good afternoon" from about 12.00 till around 17.00 and "Good evening" from then on.
When leaving, you say "Goodbye".

"Bye" is more informal.

When leaving at night, you say "Goodnight".

When going to bed you say "Goodnight."

Hello Goodbye

by The Beatles

You say yes, I say no,
You say stop and I say go, go, go!
Oh no!
You say goodbye and I say hello,
Hello, hello!
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello,
Hello, hello!
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello.

I say high, you say low.
You say why, and I say I don't know.
Oh, no!
You say goodbye and I say hello.
Hello, hello!
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello.
Hello, hello!
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello.

Why, why, why, why, why, why
Do you say good bye?
Goodbye, bye, bye, bye, bye.

Oh, no!
You say goodbye and I say hello.
Hello, hello!
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello.
Hello, hello!
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello.
Hello, hello!
I don't know why you say goodbye I say hello.
Hello!

Hela, heba helloa.
Hela, heba helloa.
