INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Pushing English .This blog has been created as a tool to help my students with the learning and improvement of the English language in a motivating way different from what it is usually taught in the classroom.
In this blog you´ll find articles,exercises,videos,activities,games and interesting links with useful information.
The teacher will also publish any creative piece of work done by the students such as compositions,dialogues ,projects and so on.
This blog will also be used as a noticeboard to remind the students about important dates (exams,papers,writings) as well as the answers to some activities or tasks set for homework.
It is also aimed at anyone interested in learning or brushing up his/her English.

CURIOSITIES

Short, pointed sentences that express a wise or clever observation:

- The nicest thing about the is that it always starts tomorrow.

-Money will buy a fine dog but only kindness will make him wag his tail.

-If you don´t have a sense of humour, you probably don´t have any sense at all.

Curiosities

Fly as a noun has the meaning of a bearing insect who buzzes with wings , but it also means the zipper on a pair of pants. Sp: bragueta. E.g: hey, your fly is down!! As an adjective fly has the meaning of cool.

Zero is the only number that cannot be represented by Roman numerals.

In ancient times strangers shook hands to show that they were unarmed.

Strawberries are the only fruits whose seeds grow on the outside.

IDIOMS RELATED WITH NATURE: A drop in the ocean- If an amount is a drop in the ocean, it's a very small portion of the amount that's needed.(es una gota en el océano, algo insignificante) a ray of sunshine-Something is a ray of sunshine if it brings happiness to someone. (ser un rayo de esperanza) a voice (crying) in the wilderness- You're a voice in the wilderness, or a voice crying in the wilderness, if you're expressing an unpopular opinion or insight. (ser una voz en el desierto) answer the call of nature- If you answer the call of nature, you go to the toilet. at sea | all at sea If you're at sea, or all at sea, you're confused about something and not sure what to do. (estoy perdido/a) To be green with envy- To be very jeaulous. To give the green light-to give approval to proceed with something(e,g. a plan) To have a green thumb or finger-To be very good at gardening or at plants.(tener buena mano con las plantas o jardinería) TYPES OF PEOPLE

City slicker-a person who lives in a city and has no experience or knowledge about living in the countryside. (urbanita)

Hick; red neck;rube(Am E, slang) - a person from the countryside who is considered to be stupid and without experience. (paleto, pueblerino)

Party crasher-one who attends a party without having been invited. ( un "colado" en una fiesta sin ser invitado)

Party pooper;Killjoy(slang )-aguafiestas

IDIOMS and EXPRESSIONS-

To break a leg- in theatre it is used to wish a performer good luck. Well-wishers typically say "Break a leg" to actors and musicians before they go on stage to perform.
